If you handle purchasing for an industrial or engineering company, you know that feeling. A request arrives that looks like a simple stock order — and the simple-looking orders are the ones that come back to haunt you. A “best price” on one of these is meaningless until you know what the enclosure has to do.

A Part Number Is a Specification in Disguise
Why is “lowest price” so misleading? Because an industrial enclosure is not just a box. It’s a protective component around electrical and electronic equipment. It may need to keep out dust and water, survive a washdown, handle heat, fit on a wall or in a rack, and provide the mounting points for whatever goes inside. That’s before you touch certifications.
A Rittal part number like 3304510 isn’t random. It identifies a specific platform and configuration. Rittal’s range — large enclosures like the VX25 and TS 8 platforms, compact AX boxes, wall-mount units, plus climate control and power distribution — works as a system. Accessories, mounting plates, busbar, cooling units, and cable entry components are designed to fit together. If the configuration is wrong, the “deal” doesn’t matter.
Here’s where the photo-shopping trap gets expensive. Two enclosures can look identical in a listing but have different degrees of protection: an IP rating per IEC 60529, or a listing status that matters for UL 508A industrial control panels in North America. The same-looking cabinet may or may not carry the documentation your customer, inspector, or maintenance team will ask for later. A photograph won’t tell you that. The datasheet will.
What “Cheap” Actually Cost Us
I get why people choose the lowest quote. Budgets are real. To be fair, the cheapest option occasionally is the right one. But in my experience, the worst purchases started with “we saved $300.”
One order in 2023 still stings. I bought two enclosures from a low quote. The units arrived late because the supplier only placed the order after taking ours. Our electricians had been scheduled around the original delivery date, so we paid for one wasted site visit plus an urgent second one. The $360 we saved on the purchase turned into roughly $900 of extra labor. I still kick myself about that one.

- What accessories must fit? Cooling unit, filters, busbar, cable glands, internal mounting.
- What is the total cost? Freight, lead time, documentation, support, and the cost of being wrong.
Notice what’s not on that list: “Which listing has the lowest price?” Price is a comparison you make after the spec is confirmed, not before. Comparing prices before the spec is confirmed is just comparing guesses.
The line item that looks slightly higher on a PO can be the genuinely cheaper option when it arrives on time, fits the accessories, and comes with the paperwork your team needs. That’s the part that never shows up in a search result.
The Bottom Line on “Best Rittal Schrank”
In my opinion, “best” doesn’t live in Rittal’s catalog. “Best” is created by matching the right product to the conditions and standards of each job. The Rittal Schrank that suits a clean server room is different from one destined for a washdown area on a food production line. No search result can tell you which one you need. An engineer and a specification can.
Price still matters. I’m not saying ignore it. But the cheapest Rittal 3304510 on the first page of search results is not necessarily the cheapest one you’ll ever buy. If the enclosure arrives late, lacks documentation, or doesn’t fit the accessories your team planned around, the real cost lands somewhere far from the invoice total.
Take it from someone who had to explain to finance why two in-stock enclosures sat in the warehouse for months: the best price begins with the correct specification and ends with an installation that works the first time. That’s the only “best” I care about.
